Everyday Seoul - My additional blog

Everyday Seoul"!

Besides this blog, I officially open additional blog of mine today, which is named "Everyday Seoul"! About a month ago, I happened to find 'Paris Daily Photo' by Eric, Parisian, while surfing Blogger.com. The rule is post a daily photo of the city where you are living and this simple rule is observed by bloggers in nearly 150 cities worldwide. Seoul has already had two bloggers, but one seemed to have stopped posting and the other one, Han, sticks to the rule. I visit Rotterdam and Paris almost everyday and recently I'm spreading my attention to other cities.

When I found City Daily Photo Blog, I wanted to join the community right away but didn't dare to do so because it seemed quite tough to post a photo a day. So I have had a trial period myself since Monday of last week and grading myself well-done, finally I open the blog. Now you will no longer call me a lazy blogger.^^V (Korean emoticon of smiling eyes and victory sign)

Theme of the Blog

While googling other blogs, I found a blog talking about what to blog. The point was each blog should have a consistent theme so that it makes bloggers able to expect what will be posted next on the blog.

So, I thought about what kind of theme I would set for my blog. First of all, I've changed my blog's name from deulpan (my web nickname, meaning a grass field in Korean) to Korsmopolitan (Korea+cosmopolitan, I initially wanted Kosmopolitan but it's already taken). If you look up 'cosmopolitan' in Collins Cobuild Dictionary, it says 'someone who is cosmopolitan has had a lot of contact with people and things from many different countries and as a result is very open to different ideas and ways of doing things.' I have to say I am trying to be very open though and I want to utilise my blog to make it.

Many of my posts will be about analysing things by a kind of comparative method. For example, I pick up a scene which represents Korean culture and develop my imression into how non-Korean would see it. But I have to admit that the object to be compared is yet limited to my experience in Western European countries. To avoid being biased as much as possible, therefore, I am widely open to any opinions.

Description about My Blog

The reason why I've decided to move from the current me-ruled web page to this Blogspot-ruled one is to aim at more connectivity and sharing. With the present web page, I can freely designed the frames and structures as I want, which is still quite a big attraction despite of annual fee for the server cost, app. 20 euros. Even though I have rarely uploaded blogs and photos to the page, I have always been thirsty for the connection to the wider range of people. Of course, I do know this connectivity does not lead only to the positive side. It is well known that the more I expose my stuff, the more risks I will face up sometimes. Nevertheless, I chose to gamble more on the positive aspect of a more open network, hoping this decision will contribute to one of my future dreams, a travel writer.

As well as the new entries to this blog, I will be editing some stuff from the now-past web page, which I would like to introduce to bloggers here. My current web page, http://deulpan.nabest.net will be available until next May. On this site, I've started writing both in Korean and English since August, 2004 so you can already surf some old and recent stuff. I'm thinking of whether I would keep this bi-lingual set or write only in English on this Blogspot page. It's not that I disregard my mother tongue (actuallly I am very proud of Korean language) but try to save some time so that I can gain more efficiency. I haven't made my mind though. It is most likely to be decided depending on contents: if it is more effective to write in Korean to let my home readers feel the real taste of words and meanings between lines, I will take it.

Anyway, welcome you all, and have fun!
