Pajeon

As I posted on my daily photo blog yesterday, 'Pajeon', so-called Korean pizza, has 'pa' meaning leeks as a basic ingredient and additional ingredients can be varied. When I made this 'jeon (煎: in Chinese and 'buchimgae' in pure Korean)', I put Korean leeks (thinner ones), pyogo mushrooms, mussels and red peppers.

Pour the dough with ingredients onto an oiled pan and fry it turning it over several times.

We eat buchimgae tearing it with chopsticks.

Lunch on a Sunday Afternoon

From this month, I have come to have more free time on weekend and last Sunday I cooked after a long time. They were curry, an everlasting regular menu for those who live away from their parents, and fresh salad.

When making curry, I like cutting ingredients into big chunks.

Just looking at this curry and rice already makes me feel full.

Recently I have found lack of magnesium in my body so made some salad.

Marsh Snail, Noodles & Vegetables with Sauce

What I cooked with the vegetables on the previous post is "Marsh Snail, Noodles & Vegetables with Sauce/ Golbangi Muchim." There has been a canned marsh snail I bought an age ago, and finally I opend the lid. Now let's see the ingredients.

From left-bottom, sesame leaves: I love these leaves a lot because of its strong and fresh smell.
Sauce: mixed with chilly paste sauce, chilly powder, and lots of seasonings
Sliced cucumbers and onions
Three different paprikas and marsh snails

A lot of Korean food requires mixing ingredients with sauce and this plastic glove is quite convenient. In Western countries, as a kind of big spoons (what's the correct name for this? salad spoon?) are normally used for making salads, I haven't seen this glove ever. While studying abroad, I wish I had this glove when I seasoned bulgogi.

Serve with noodles.
This cuisine can be enjoyed anytime but it is one of the most-loved side dish for drinks in Korea. And the chef at pubs makes the sauce as hot and spicy as possible so that people order more beer to cool their burned tongues.

Shop Vegetables at Small Stores

If you are single, you come to have some widoms for grocery shopping. One of the tips is buying vegetables not at hyper markets but small stores in one's town. At hyper markets, vegetables are wrapped nicely, and because of this, the price is expensive and moreover the bunch itself is kinda big so you throw around a half of the vegetables before you finish them.

I don't remember the exact prices for the vegetables on the pic, but peppers were 2,000 won (1.5 euros) for sure and a cucumber and sesame leaves both were about 700 won (50 euro cents).

Black is a typical colour for plastic bags in Korea. As far as I know, white leads in European countries. Black plastic bags are quite multi-purposed, especially for ugly rubbish and waste from a toilet bin.

Please look forward to the next post, which will be about what I cooked with these vegetables.
